Authors notes~~~
Okay sooo I’ve been wanting to do something like this for awhile and I finally got around to it. I just wanted to try it and clash pokemon with real life highschoolers. So yeah~ tell me what you think :)

A scorching breeze slapped me across the face and I was back in reality. Standing in front of my new school. My new High school. Where there’s bullies, judgment, and every other nightmare to a freshman. I brushed my hair with my fingertips and started forward. I was excited about one thing though. I was going to receive my starter today, my partner, my very own pokemon. I wasn’t sure how I was going to receive it, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to choose. Most kids already have their starters because their parents are breeders, or trainers. But I’m not aloud to see my parents anyways.
”Are you a freshman also?!” a boy about my height piped out as he approached me. I was aware of the little cream colored feline on his shoulder.
”uh…yeah” I was a little shy at first. “Is that yours?”
”Of course, why else would I have him” he replied with a cheery smile. “This is my Meowth, Jester”
“Where’d you get him?” I asked more eagerly then I wanted to.
”My parents had given him to me just last week” he said with pride for his parents
Great. Another ‘proud-to-have-parents-kid’ I couldn’t help but feel a little broken inside.
”Do you have a starter?” he asked, looking behind my shoulder as if the pokemon I didn’t have would be standing there.
”No” I said flatly. I had no clue on how I was to receive one still but I guess I’d soon find out as the bell had rung.
”We’d better head to the gym!”
”why” I was so clueless
”For orientation, dork” I still hadn’t even know this guys name and he already assumed name calling was okay. It didn’t bother me at all. But I guess we were going to be friends from now on.
We headed into the gym where at least 200 other freshman had been. Some had pokemon and some didn’t. I took notice of some of the stronger pokemon and who had owned them. A boy that only minded his Flareon, A square faced girl with what I assumed was a Golem. And dozens of other pokemon, from a Togepi, to a Lucario. That is, until a booming voice came over the entire gym.
”ALL POKEMON MUST BE RETURNED TO THEIR POKEBALLS IMMEDIATELY”
All the dazzling red lights could have blinded you. The noise level came down a notch and there was more room in the gym. Most were just standing around awkwardly, others chatted with triumph.
My now friend turned to me with a hand “I’m Sam by the way” with that warm smile from earlier. It was now that I took note of his features. He was strangely enough very similar looking to me. With soft brown eyes, a rounded nose, perfect eyebrows(as I am told of mine) and a jaw bone that said kiss me. We could be mistaken for brothers, and I smiled at this.
“I’m Nicholas, Nick for short” I gave my best smile, flashing my almost perfect teeth.
”PLEASE BE SEATED”
We began sliding to the bleachers slowly like a slow oozy liquid of students. Once we were all seated the woman with a microphone could be made out in the center.
”Welcome, new students of Cerrulean High!” She cheesed it quite grossly.
The rest of her speech flew by as I was spaced out. Until she got to the part of her speech mentioning starter pokemon.
”Those of you that do not have a starter will get your chance, do not worry. Your homeroom classes will give you the assignment of capturing your own” I was beaming, “You will be provided with 3 pokeballs and you will have until Friday to obtain your pokemon. Those with pokemon already at hand will also have the same assignment”
Sam seemed pretty excited as well, I don’t think he’s caught his own pokemon either. We then retrieved our schedules and were ordered back to the bleachers. Now the rules were announced.
”1. Your pokemon are NOT allowed out during class periods
2. Battling is prohibited strictly! If you engage in battle with or without pokemon you will be expelled from Cerrulean High.”
That was all I had listened to. They were the most important I supposed. Alls I could think about was capturing my very own pokemon. Sam and I then began to scan our schedules. We had four classes together including lunch and homeroom, so I was pretty happy to have a friend already.
We were dismissed to our classes where Sam and I headed to Algebra. It was pretty boring, our teacher, Mr. Novak was an old kook. Then we headed to English which was just as bland. But then came History, which was Homeroom. And sure enough we received our pokeballs, pokemon field guide, encyclopedia, and training guide. I couldn’t help but smirk. I was so excited.
The rest of the day dragged on and I found myself walking home with Sam. He declared an alliance in our capturing project and I wasn’t about to decline. We were headed for my house, well my sister’s house. Now that our parents were gone. She’s 20 and a pretty good parental figure. So I was hoping she could drive us out to the forest were my starter could be lurking.
”Are your parents nice?” Sam had asked me off guard.
”I…I uh, I don’t have parents” I replied pretty awkwardly.
”Well, what kind of pokemon do you want?” he chirped. I liked that he didn’t make it even more awkward like most people do. I liked him. He was beginning to look like the brother I’ve never had.
”I haven’t really thought about it” I really haven’t, I’m not even aware of which species are around here.
”I’d love to catch a Growlithe” He beamed.
A Growlithe does seem pretty awesome. I don’t like the idea anymore though since Sam wants one. A Gengar would be pretty legit. So would a Raichu. I’ve seen a guy at a park with one, it was bullet fast and looked fierce.
”You’d probably be better off with a Rattata” I teased
”Well, I can picture you with a Jigglypuff just as perfectly” sticking his tongue at me.
We got home and I introduced Sam to my sister.
She was in the backyard training one of her pokemon, which wasn’t around; I decided she had Ricky flying laps as always.
”Hey I was wondering if you could maybe take us down to the forest so we can catch some pokemon”
”Ah yes, your first assignment as freshmen” she smiled “I remember when I had my go at it. How I got Ricky” Ricky was her Pidgeot, she also owned several other pokemon I was jealous of.
”Well?”
”Sure, we’ll head out in a few.” I assumd she didn’t have any research to do today, she strives to become a pokemon researcher.
”You can let Jester out, we have all kinds of pokemon food if he’s hungry”
”Okay, cool.” There was that flash of red and Jester presumed his shoulder.
We talked about all sorts of stuff, our classes, the upper classmen, the upper classmen’s pokemon, etc. And before we knew it we were facing the forest, pokeballs at hand.
”So what species are in there?” I asked my sister
”I’m not telling” she teased
”What?! Why not!” I barked
”It wouldn’t be fair now would it? Just go in and catch whatever tickles your fancy. Ill even lend you Spuds.” I was okay with that, Spuds is her Bellossom. He doesn’t have a very nice attitude but he is one heck of a fighter.
”Okay, deal. Lets go Sam!” we charged into the forest, pokemon and pokeballs at ready. The forest was pretty dense, I was familiar with it though, I know for a fact there are Caterpie and Weedle but those were not my cup of tea at all.
”I don’t think there’s any Growlithe here, Sam” I said matter-of-factly.
”Yeah me neither, but anything’ll do”
We passed by a tree inhabited by sleeping Metapod, a river full of Magikarp, and a cave we decided to enter.
”You’re sure it’s safe?” questioned Sam worriedly
”Relax, we have Spuds, he can handle anything, cant you.” He glared daggers at me. As we continued down the cave Sam swore something brushed against his leg, I assumed it was Jester but he said he had returned him a while ago.
”What?! Why would you keep your only pokemon in its ball when were-“ there was a roar, and not a nice one. I covered my mouth and hoped Sam was doing the same. There was an unusual warm glow not too far away. And it was approaching us rather quickly. Then without warning a flamethrower had shot directly next to me burning off the only arm hairs I had. It was at this slight moment of visibility I could make out our assassin, a Charmeleon.
”RUN!” I shouted as I dashed for the tiny spot of light which was our exit.
”Wait! I want it!” The most stupid thing I’ve heard Sam say since we’ve met.
”You’re insane! Its too strong!”
”Tell Spuds to send sleeppowder down the cave-“
”You’re crazy-“
”Just do it please!”
I reluctantly called to Spuds “Sleeppowder!” I had no idea why I was listening to Sam.
The Bllossom obediently sent spores raining down the cave. “Now what wise guy?!” we had stopped to turn around and I could barely make out a soft glow about a hundred feet back.
”Now send an attack down there!” Was he serious?
”Like what?!”
”I don’t know, anything!” he seemed too chill about all this.
”uhhh, Spuds, use, razor leaf?” And before I could blink a dozen leaves flew like blades, slicing through the air with a whistle.
”Okay, now for the capture!” He called as if he thought this was going to work. But he tossed a pokeball anyways, straight down the center of the cave. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing because there was a flash, meaning the ball had consumed something.
”Doesn’t mean you caught it” I said with jealousy. There was noticeable struggle of the ball, one….two….three…
”Alright! I got one!” I could hear the success in his voice. He ran down the cave and retrieved his new Charmeleon. “I can’t believe I really caught it! Thanks so much Nick!” I accepted his victory hug.
”Alright lets get out of here please?”
”Of course! I wanna see him outside! Oh! And name him too!”
”It could be a girl y’know” I poked but he was all too excited to care.
Once we got back into daylight he decided to release his new partner. I couldn’t help but laugh, I was hysterical. Sam blandly stared at his new Rhyhorn.
”Well, What are you gonna name your new Charmeleon!” I snickered
”Oh my god! Hes soooo cool!” He wasn’t phased at all. “What should I name him?!”
”…” I was happy for him, yet so jealous.
”Ill call you Buddy!” He chirped as he examined the Rhyhorn.
”Congratulations, and blah blah. I want my starter now so lets keep movi-“ I stopped dead in my tracks, mouth so oped I’m surprised I didn’t start drooling. Right before my eyes was a Pikachu, not just because it’s a Pikachu but it was unusually large. It would be up to my bellybutton if it was beside me.
”Whats wro- Whoaaa!” Sam was just as shocked. The Pikachu cocked its head and seemed like it was going to make a mad dash.
”Spuds!”
